The Stage Directory (A London and Provincial Theatrical Advertiser) was founded
by Maurice Comerford and Lionel Carson in February 1880 as a monthly newspaper.
The first issue was 12 pages and priced 3d.
Today, the weekly newspaper and website cover a much more diverse entertainment
and performing arts industry. The Stage has previewed, reviewed, monitored, reported
and analysed performance across the UK entertainment industry for more than 125 years and over 6,500 issues.
Its 170,000+ pages provide a rich and fascinating record of changing fortunes and fashion in
the world of showbusiness.
